Kalapuya High School students measure stream health during an Outdoor School field lesson.

Students from Kalapuya High School capture micro-invertebrates to study stream health during an outdoor learning experience at Opal Creek.

Grants to assist with Outdoor Learning are offered to classroom teachers wishing to integrate forestry into their classroom.

FT&F believes that there is no better way to help students learn about forests than by providing them with opportunities to be in the forest.

To help create these opportunities, FT&F offers grants to local schools to help them fund their outdoor learning programs. Grants range from $200 to $1,500. Programs need to have a forestry education component to qualify. Download an application here.

In exchange for the grant funding, teachers agree to participate in forestry education programs such as the award-winning Project Learning Tree, the Oregon Teacher on Summer Assignment internship program and the Temperate Forest Foundation’s Teacher Tour; or they can choose from courses specifically designed for educators offered through Oregon State University’s College of Forestry.
