Fall Forest Field Days.

If you’d enjoy a fine day in the midst of Oregon's great outdoors educating youth about our abundant natural resources, the fall Forest Field Days may be just the opportunity you've been seeking!

And, although summer is still unfolding, fall does come fast and the annual events are just around the corner!

So, once again, we at Forests Today & Forever are turning to you — the forestry professionals, the small woodlands owners, the teaching community and the many dedicated, forest-loving volunteers — to help us produce a day of learning for our Willamette Valley middle school students. For some, it is their only opportunity to explore a part of their state's heritage and its future.

This past spring season, students from 11 middle schools gathered on private woodlands in Lorane, Sweet Home and Florence to take their lessons in the ultimate classroom — an Oregon forest. The events began on April 30 in Lorane and culminated on May 30 on a beautiful Siuslaw River property in Florence.

As always, resource leaders are needed this October for all four learning stations — Forestry, Soils & Water, Recreation and Wildlife. Resource Leader Guides are provided early to allow time to review, and arrangements may be made to visit the site ahead of time if desired.

Our Spring Forest Field Days will begin in May 2009, and we will need a minimum of 80 volunteers. A schedule with locations will be posted soon.

If you can commit a day or two to this very worthy cause, we would love to hear from you! Please call or email Program Coordinator LaRae Ash at (541)998-6438 or you may email her.
